PERSONAL BRAND STRATEGY

At the heart of my degree is building relationships with others, which brings purpose and meaning to my life.  I’ve worked in sales and marketing for the last two years, and recently just started in event planning.  My organizational skills have led me to find my interest in event planning.  I also have a passion for videography, because it allows me to make memories come alive.  When I’m not hitting the books, you can find me traveling with friends, working out, or making something tasty in the kitchen.

Go Forth to Serve

he education for students at Brigham Young University is unique to any other institution in the world.  At the entrance of the campus reads the mantra “enter to learn, go forth to serve.”  The way that students are able to accomplish this undertaking is through four aims: spiritually strengthening, intellectually enlarging, character building, and lifelong learning and service.  Each of these four aims woven together create a rich experience for students and prepare them to have a successful life upon graduation and beyond.  Though there are many institutions and universities throughout the country that share these goals, the combination of all of them is unique to BYU.

The purpose of college education for students at Brigham Young University is not solely to have a successful career and become wealthy.  Though that may be part of it, students at BYU have their sights set on something much higher, much more noble.  Students seek to refine their intellect as well as their hearts.  The four aims work together to help students become well-rounded individuals who can make an impact on the world.

Starting with the first aim, BYU is to be spiritually strengthening.  Isaac J. Newton said, “he who thinks half-heartedly will not believe in God; but he who really thinks has to believe in God.”  In the Book of Mormon, a book of sacred scripture to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it teaches that “the purpose of this life is to prepare to meet God” (Alma 34:32).  Many professors will begin their classes with a word of prayer so that the minds of the students will be opened and so that they might grasp concepts with greater clarity.

The second aim for education is to be Intellectually enlarging.  Abigail Adams has said, “learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.”  The standards to get into the university are not a walk in the park by any means.  And once a student has proven themselves to get in, the workload doesn’t stop there.  BYU classes are rigorous and competitive in nature, which only better prepares students for the real world.

The third aim is to be character building.  Helen Keller once said, “character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.  Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”  It seems fitting that this aim follows intellectual enlarging, because it gives purpose and meaning to life to use your intellect in the service of others.  Character building experiences humble us so that we will be willing to help those in need.

The last aim is to cultivate lifelong learning and service. “Live as if you were to die tomorrow.  Learn as if you were to live forever,” said Mahatma Gandhi.  This takes us back to where we started which is the mantra for the university; enter to learn, go forth to serve.  The entire purpose of education is to bless the lives of others, especially those who are not as fortunate to receive their own education.  In the Book of Mormon, we learn, “teach them to walk in the ways of truth…teach them to love one another, and to serve one another” (Mosiah 4:15).  The is a central teaching in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it is a central goal for Brigham Young University.

My life has been forever changed by the foundation that has been laid for me during my time at Brigham Young University.  I have taken these four aims of the university and have turned them into the four aims of my life.  Because they gave my college education so much guidance and direction, it only seems fitting that they will do the same for my own personal life.  And I believe the more I develop myself to the extent of my abilities, the more capable I will be to “go forth to serve.”

5 Mind-blowing Ways to Grow Your Business Instagram Following

My Work: Inventory

It’s not enough to simply have an Instagram account for your business.  You need to have an Instagram account that is run well.  Think of your favorite accounts on Instagram to follow.  What is it about the content being posted on these accounts that keeps you coming back for more?  The answer to this question might be the secret to your success.
You may find that right now you don’t have the funds available to pay for a social media marketing specialist, especially if you are a new and upcoming company.  Well, lucky for you, this article has all of the tips and tricks necessary to do it yourself.

Here are 6 tips to take your Instagram presence from good to great:

  1. Partner with another Instagram account in your same niche.

Usually we save the best for last.  But honestly?  This tip might be the greatest tip yet in gaining followers.  The truth is, people love stuff.  Especially free stuff.  Qualifications to enter a contest on Instagram are always to follow both accounts.  It’s honestly just a big win-win for everyone.  At the end of the day, you get followers and people get free stuff.

2. Tip number is less about what to do and more about what not to do.  Do not buy followers.  Ever. Like never ever.  Why?  Because there is no reason to buy thousands of followers if none of them are actually real people.  Sure, it will look nice that you have thousands of followers, but what you actually want are followers that will help grow your business.

3. Consistency is key.  You’ve probably heard that before, but have you heard it in terms of posting content for your business?  Repetition is crucial when Instagram algorithms are all about volume.  Instagram favors the accounts that post most frequently.

4. Post pretty things that are pleasing to the eye.  Sounds like an obvious thing to do, but this will set you apart from your competition.  It is also the key in increasing the engagement of your followers.

5. Utilize the highlight feature.  This is a somewhat new feature on Instagram, but it is a great way to keep your page organized.  This is a great resource for followers to visit to find descriptions of your products/features.

6. Last but certainly not least….ask for more followers.  It may sound kind of weird, but it is actually okay to do this.  How many times have you watched an YouTube video and heard the words “subscribe to our channel” at the end of it?  Someone once told me, “you get in life what you have the courage to ask for.”  So, take your courage to ask for more followers and watch them roll in.

So there you have it.  Take this information and go and do something great with your Instagram page.  These methods are tried, tested and true, so if followed, increased followers are most definitely in your future.

Why Bother with Content Marketing

Whether you have heard the term content marketing or not, you have been affected by it in some way.  What is it?  Content marketing is defined as a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience. And, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.  What is the purpose of taking the time to do content marketing?  The purpose is and will always be to grow your business.

When it comes to content marketing, consistency is key.  This type of marketing is all about creating and producing relevant material on a regular basis.  If it isn’t consistent, it won’t hold the same power in building a strong relationship with customers.

Good things take time.  Content marketing is very much a long-term strategy, so don’t expect results overnight.  Your sales won’t increase immediately, but overtime, you’ll have developed a strong enough relationship with your customers that they will actually start to prefer you over your competitors.

Content marketing is all about storytelling.  The way people are telling stories now is different than how people were telling stories in the past with digital options, but regardless, people are still telling stories.  Within these stories, it is all about creating an emotional connection with the reader or viewer that will drive them to purchasing.

There are many formats available for use in content marketing and here are several: how to’s, content creation, case studies, charts/graphs, e books, emails/newsletters, cartoons/illustrations, book summaries, tool reviews, giveaways, FAQs, q&a session, webinar, guides, dictionary, “Day in the Life Of” post, infographics, interviews, lists, mind maps, online game, meme, helpful application tool, opinion post, papers, vlog, templates, videos, slide shares, quizzes, posts, polls, podcasts, pin boards, photo collage, original research, press release, photos, predictions, user generated content, company news, timelines, etc.  As you can see there are many options to use.  Don’t feel overwhelmed or feel like you have to use them all.  Each business is different and has different avenues of content marketing that will work better for them.

Many people have the question of why for why business go to the effort to do content marketing.  The short answer to this question is because it attracts attention.  It gets your brand in the media and it gets people talking.  These two things will lead to an increase in sales.

So give it a try and see what content marketing can do for you and your business.
